Dr. Vonda Wright is one of only a few female orthopedic surgeons in the country and is an internationally recognized authority on active aging and mobility. She regularly appears on Dr. Oz, The Doctors, and other national media outlets. She has authored two books: Fitness After 40: How to Stay Strong at Any Age, and Dr. Vonda Wright’s Guide to Thrive: Four Steps to Body, Brains, and Bliss, the latter of which led to her starting a fitness product line called THRIVE. She earned her medical degree from the University of Chicago, and did her residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh.

Go-to breakfast:
I love having a big bowl of steel cut oats, Canadian bacon and a bowl of strawberries with amazing coffee. When I’m rushing to the operating room, I sometimes settle for the box of Cheerios I keep in my car.

Favorite stress reliever:
My best stress reliever is an intense run — “20 Minutes to Burn,” I like to call it.  I also like to come home from work and cook dinner and make a big mess in the kitchen.

Favorite food indulgence:
I eat dark chocolate every day, usually in the afternoon.  It’s part of my “anti-inflammatory” diet.

Favorite music to exercise to:
“I Feel Love” and “Shadows” by the Blue Man Group featuring Venus Hum. (I want to be her.)

Most surprising talent:
Almost anything I see in my mind, I can make with my hands. Not surprising for a surgeon, but I can also drive a tractor, pluck a chicken and grow a mean garden.

Daily inspiration:
Isabella Joy Wright, my 5-year-old amazing daughter.  She is simply the best of everything!

Biggest challenge:
Advancing my vision of changing the way people age by teaching them the power of mobility — while holding down my day job as a surgeon.

Favorite workout:
Hard-burning workouts that leave me tired, exhilarated, and feeling really strong!  I get that feeling when I run “reverse split” workouts (meaning the second half of the run is faster than the first); when I teach one of my Total Body Cross Training circuit classes for runners; or when I grind out a 20 Minutes to Burn workout. If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would play you?
A brunette who could combine smart and silly, no-nonsense and tender. She would have to love life as much as I do and be able to sing in the hallways.
