It’s date night and you’re headed to the movies, again. You hit the snack bar for a giant soda, large bucket of buttered popcorn, and candy. After the movie, you hit the town for a few drinks with friends. Sound familiar? Chances are you’ve had this exact date. Sure, it may have been a great time — but date nights like this one can add up quickly and lead to an increased waistline.

So what’s the solution? Start planning healthy date nights!A healthy date is one that includes healthy food options, active entertainment. It leaves you feeling healthier, not heavier!

Here are four ideas to try:

  1. Cooking classes. Adult cooking classes are a great way to learn how to prepare healthy meals. Check the schedule ahead of time for healthy options or classes for meals you may not typically try at home. Typically, these classes let you prepare the meal and serve smaller portions than restaurants.
  2. Partner up for a two-step! Hit the dance floor with salsa or two-step lessons at a local studio. You can usually find coupons for local studios that offer after-hours classes on the evenings and weekends. Dancing can burn up to 600 calories per hour, too.
  3. Climb a mountain. Yes, you heard me right: climb a mountain at a local indoor rock climbing facility. Not only can you learn the basics of a new skill, but also have an opportunity to be challenged with your partner.
  4. Couples massage. Leave the stress of the workweek behind and relax your worries away together! The health benefits of massage are endless. The best part? You get to hang out with your partner the entire time!
