The heat is on in Pittsburgh as we head into the scorching month of August. The great news is that there is no lack of things to do both inside and out to get moving and stay healthy! Here are our top picks for August.

August 3-7, 2016
EQT Pittsburgh 3 Rivers Regatta: This August, you gotta go to Point State Park and help the city honor Pittsburgh’s renowned history, vibrant present, and exciting future. With music, boating, food, fireworks and family fun, the EQT Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta is where Pittsburghers come out to celebrate the city we call home and the waterfront we love and depend on. See you there!

August 4, 2016 (and every Thursday)
Market Square Farmers Market: Each Thursday, join 7,000 to 10,000 office workers, residents, and visitors at Market Square to enjoy local produce, gourmet treats, and the diverse restaurants and shops surrounding the Square. This season they are bringing the region’s cream of the crop to the heart of the city. More than 25 vendors will be showcased weekly along with free concerts at noon.

Stand-Up Paddle Board Yoga: Join Venture Outdoors for a yoga class on the water! This outing will start with an easy introduction to SUP yoga and then will move onto the water as trip leaders guide you through a series of poses and other yoga principals. Some basic yoga and SUP skills are recommended.

Yoga in the Square: Brought to you by FittPGH and the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, Yoga in the Square offers complimentary one-hour yoga practices led by some of the city’s best yoga instructors in Market Square in the heart of Downtown.

August 9, 2016 (and every Tuesday)
KidsPlay: Enliven and enrich your child’s summer with KidsPlay at Market Square. This summer, children and their families/caregivers can enjoy fun and educational programs and activities, complete with crafts, stories, and special guests.

August 13-14, 2016
Pittsburgh Triathlon and Adventure Race: The 19th edition of Pittsburgh Triathlon is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, August 13 to 14. It will feature an adventure race, sprint triathlon, and an Olympic distance triathlon. Proceeds from the event benefit the work of Friends of the Riverfront in building and maintaining the Three Rivers Heritage Trail.

Sunsets over Pittsburgh Paddle: Enjoy the sunset from the water! Venture Outdoors will take you on a relaxing paddle along the Allegheny River to take in the sights and sounds of the city as the sun sets. Previous paddling experience required.

August 20, 2016
Ballroom Dancing for Beginners and Beyond: If you love to dance but need to brush up a little bit, join this beginners and beyond class. Lesson is from 7 to 8 p.m. then dance till 10:30 p.m. This is a beginner-friendly ballroom dance event. Instructors will be on hand all night to help you learn!

Confident City Cycling: Biking in the city is fun, plain and simple. And with millions of dollars being invested in creating a more bike-friendly Pittsburgh, now is the perfect time to start. Confident City Cycling is intended for riders who are comfortable riding a bike alone — on trails or quiet streets — and would like to learn the simple skills necessary to become comfortable urban cyclists.

Fireworks Paddle: Venture Outdoors will take you on a leisurely paddle up the Allegheny River and float back down towards PNC Park in time for the fireworks show. Once the ballgame is over, it is time to sit back, relax and marvel at the fireworks. Feel all the BOOMS and POPS vibrating the water from your front-row seat. End time may run later if the baseball game goes into extra innings. Minimum age 8 years old with parent in tandem. Previous paddling experience required.

Pittsburgh Paddle Social: Are you an experienced paddler interested in heading out on the water for some quality SUP time? Bring your friends and join us for a paddle social on the three rivers. Our friendly SUP guides will be on the water for a chat and photo ops. Includes all necessary equipment, and paddle time with an SUP instructor.

Hiking with the Stars: Ever wonder what goes on in the domed building above the North Side? Join Venture Outdoors for a two- to three-mile scenic and historical hike through Riverview Park. You will explore this beautiful city park, and then complete the evening with a short film presentation and guided tour of the Allegheny Observatory.

History of Bridges Bicycle Tour: Love the beautiful bridges of Pittsburgh — but don’t know much about them? This could be fun for you! You’ll learn all about the Pittsburgh bridges — which one is the oldest, what bridge burnt down and had to be rebuilt twice, who are they actually named after, and lots of other fascinating details.

August 27, 2016
The Most Amazing Race: This citywide challenge race operates much like The Amazing Race. Teams of two will travel around Pittsburgh completing challenges and collecting clues to find their next challenge. Each team much raise at least $250 to race and all of the money raised benefits youth programs in Allegheny County. This race is hosted by the Salvation Army.

August 29, 2016
Beginners’ Paddle: You will start with instruction and practice, and then head onto the Allegheny River to see just how easy it is to paddle. Bedazzled by the gorgeous Pittsburgh skyline, you won’t even realize that you’re suddenly paddling like a pro! Equipment, guides and instruction are provided. Solo kayaks are highly recommended for this outing. The minimum age is 12.
