How to Fit in Fitness for the Winter Holidays

The holidays are fun times filled with family and friend gatherings. For most, it’s a busy time of year as well. But what about being active? Do you struggle to get in your normal physical activity during the holidays? Here are some tips to incorporate activity into this upcoming holiday season.

Don’t stop shopping!

Add extra steps by shopping until you find the perfect gifts for your loved ones. Go back to the car between each shop to drop off bags. Park farther away from the store entrance. Take the stairs rather than the escalator or elevator.

Take an evening walk.

After dinner and before settling in for the night, take a stroll through your neighborhood. Check out all the fun holiday decorations. 

Go ice skating.

Many local areas have indoor and outdoor ice skating rinks. Get out of the house and enjoy an evening with family or friends.

Be adventurous and try something new.

Take a skiing or snowboarding lesson. Pittsburgh is always great for a long, cold winter. Take advantage of the opportunity to be active in a new way.

Dance while you decorate!

Put on your favorite holiday music and move to the beat as you spread the holiday cheer around your home.

Do you want to build a snowman?

Get outside and play in the snow. Start a snowball battle with the family. At the end of the day, any extra movement is beneficial, and you might as well have fun while you’re doing it.
