Fitness in the Trees (FIT): Low Impact

Be prepared to get dirty and sweaty and use Mother Nature as the backdrop for this circuit based workout. Using a nature themed scavenger hunt, we’ll do fitness activies such as inchworms, bear crawls, squats, pushups and more when we come across pre-determined natural items such as stumps, birds, vines, etc.

Yoga in the Square

Think of your favorite little yoga studio. Now remove the ceiling. Change the small number of participants into a sea of participants. Now you can imagine what Downtown Pittsburgh Yoga in the Square is all about. The event is a giant, outdoor yoga class. It takes place in the beating heart of downtown and is led by topnotch Pittsburgh yogis.

Move it Mondays

When the weather gets warm, take back your Mondays with a free fitness class in Market Square! Over the lunch hour, enjoy a variety of classes from the YMCA including Zumba, belly dance, Pilates, and more.  Want an evening class? Don’t worry, we got you covered.  Unwind from the workday with classes and runs as well!

Barre3 in the Park

Join us this summer for an outdoor barre3 class at Southpointe Town Center Park We’ll move big in the fresh air as the sun sets!

Dancing in the Square

Get your weekend started with Dancing in the Square presented by USA Dance Pittsburgh in conjunction with Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership.  Learn new and traditional dances in the heart of Pittsburgh.  Classes are free and no partner required!

St. Barnabas Free Care 5K

Help us set the pace in a race to provide free care. Whether a fitness enthusiast seeking the challenge of the North Hills’ top-rated course or merely a fan of a great summer party, participation is a guaranteed treat for you and others. Proceeds benefit the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund, which affords $7 million in care to patients and residents every year.

VegFest 2018

VegFest is back for the fourth year and that only means MORE of pretty much everything. Join us at the Allegheny Commons from 11am to 5pm for more food than you can imagine, plus all kinds of fun activities.

Family Yoga with Let’s Move Pittsburgh and YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh

Whether you’re a yoga aficionado or trying it out for the first time, grab your mat, head to Phipps and bring the kids! Let’s Move Pittsburgh and the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh are pleased to present a free, family-friendly yoga class on our historic front lawn.

Janney and the Y North Park Triathlon

Looking for a challenge this summer – take on the 2018 Janney and Y North Park Triathlon. This Sprint Triathlon will feature a 700 meter long course pool swim, 12 mile bike ride, and 5K run!

Oms in the Outfield

Take a deep belly breath and plant your tree post at PNC Park during OMs in the Outfield. The day celebrates movement beginning at 7am. All participants are invited to attend the Pirates game later that afternoon. The first 1,000 participants will receive a free Pirates yoga mat.

Fluid Motion SUP and SIP

North Park Lake’s calm waters are the perfect setting for SUP yoga (stand-up paddle board) practice or leisurely paddle. SUP yoga is suitable for all levels and is an experience that stays with you long after you return to land.

Big Free Yoga

Each month, ASCEND hosts a large-scale, community yoga class in the main climbing area called Big Free Yoga. The energy is truly inspiring and there’s no better way to start your weekend! With new yoga teachers every month, you are guaranteed a unique yoga experience. Basically, Big Free Yoga is awesome and you should come.

Night Nation Run

The Night Nation Run is the World’s first running music festival – an ultimate blend of a music festival and a fun run.  Experience a music-filled course with Live DJs, light shows, bubble zones, and neon/black lights.  Cross the finish the line into an epic main stage after party!

Two Face 10K

2x the Fun in 1 great event! Held in gorgeous North Park, this is the brainchild of an insane race director. It is a dual race scenario combining a 10K Road race, which is then followed immediately afterward by a 10K Trail race. Both races are held typically on one of the most humid days of the year in western PA–see what we mean by insane! If you are not up to the full 20K challenge, you can still sign up for just one, but then you only leave with half of your finishes “face” medal!

Finisher’s will receive (1 of 2) medals upon finishing each race. If you complete both races you go home with a complete medal!

LL Bean Night Glow SUP Yoga

After brief instruction on the fundamentals of stand-up paddle boarding, we’ll head out just after sunset to experience paddling in a new, exciting way. Equipped with LED light bars, our paddle boards illuminate the water, creating a glowing halo effect and providing an amazing underwater view of nocturnal marine life.

Yoga on the Lawn

Join Indigo Yoga Loft as we travel to the Red Fox Winery and Lounge for
a Sunday morning yoga flow on the beautiful lawn or under their private covered deck out back! We will enjoy a 60-minute class followed by wine samplings, light refreshments, and live entertainment.

Curious if you have what it takes to do a Spartan Race? Take part in a 2-hour bodyweight workout and learn training tips from one of our top Spartan SGX coaches, all of which will prepare you for race day.

Friday, August 17

6th Annual Passavant Hospital Foundation 8K or 4K Walk/Run

Join us for a summer evening of family, friends and fun as Passavant Hospital Foundation hosts its 6th Annual 8K and 4K race around the North Park Pool Loop. Participants have the option of running or walking one loop for the 4K or two loops for the 8K. Participants of all ages and abilities are welcome. Bring your baby in a stroller or your pooch on a leash! Following the race, celebrate with fellow runners at the Harmar Pavilion with an awards ceremony, raffle prizes and refreshments.

Third Friday Fitness Hike

Walking for thirty minutes every day in nature is linked to lowered blood pressure, elevated moods, and reduced cases of heart disease.Get fit and active on the trails around the Frick Environmental Center. All are welcome, and hike pace is determined by the hike leader based on the group.

Summer Yoga Splash

The Carnegie Museum of Art’s drop-in yoga kicks it up a notch for a summertime session in our outdoor sculpture court! Indulge in a juice bar, take summer selfies, and practice yoga in the summer breeze. Gather your crew and join us starting at 6 p.m. An hour-long yoga session begins at 7 p.m.

Run Around the Square

Celebrate community during the infamous Run Around the Square. The gun will sound at 8:15am for the 1.5-mile race and 9am for the 5k. Both races explore the streets of Regent Square, while the 5k also dips into the hills of Frick Park and finishes in Fern Hollow.

Fluid Motion Full Moon Floating Yoga

Take part in a sacred cleansing ritual and discover the beauty of nature at night during this mystical yoga class under the glow of the moon. You will be guided through “SUP moon salutations,” a sweet evening yoga practice and a floating meditation as the moonlight dances around you. The glow of the full moon enhances the beauty of these secluded waters and creates a truly memorable experience.

Bay 41 Fitness Series Powered by Arsenal Strength

Our good friends at Arsenal Strength (and their sister studio Arsenal Cycle) are moving their bikes outside to Bay 41, a historical Pittsburgh industrial site turned event space of The Foundry at 41st in Lawrenceville. This one-of-a-kind class will combine HIIT, bootcamp, and cycling — it’s one sweaty party on and off the bike.  Rest assured, the venue alone is enough to make you forget you’re getting your booty kicked.

KIDFITSTRONG Fitness Challenge

The KIDFITSTRONG Fitness Challenge is the nation’s largest mobile fitness event traveling from coast-to-coast dedicated to keeping kids active and healthy. At the KIDFITSTRONG Fitness Challenge, kids of all ages get the opportunity to flex their physical fitness by participating in a completion-based obstacle course designed to challenge speed, strength, agility and overall physical fitness. 

Fountains of Pittsburgh

On this urban ride, our route takes us from the North Shore’s cascading waterfall near PNC Park to the waterfalls of Downtown Pittsburgh and the South Side Works. We’ll do 3 hours of easy pedaling on riverfront trails and some downtown streets.
